Lake Bunyonyi

A magnificent lake set in the mountainous area of south eastern Uganda. Lake Bunyonyi is renowned for watersports like canoeing and sailing. Only a handful of its 29 islands are populated. Accommodation is mainly found on Bushara Island, one of the bigger islands on the lake. At 1962m above sea level, temperatures can drop significantly, especially at night, so travellers should come prepared for this.

While crayfish are a rarity in Uganda, indeed many Ugandans believe crayfish to be inedible and even poisonous, they are considered a delicacy in the area around Lake Bunyonyi and are even shipped to other parts of the country.

Lake Bunyonyi is a very peaceful, scenic place, so it is a good idea to stop here for a night or two after gorilla tracking.
